Abstract

Time-dependent crack growth in brittle rock has been studied utilizing the proposed numerical models. The modeling schemes are developed based on the theory of subcritical crack growth, linear elastic fracture mechanics and Charles equation. The lifetime prediction schemes were introduced. Simulation results of different numerical models were compared. Preliminary studies were also performed to simulate the fracture pattern of underground opening and pillar. Conclusions were drawn, and possible future work is also discussed.
