Abstract

This paper presents a computational study of the two-dimensional flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past a circular cylinder subject to a circular motion. We used the Fourier spectral analysis with finite difference approximations to integrate the two-dimensional unsteady Navier–Stokes equations which govern the motion. The numerical simulations reveal the occurrence of multiple lock-in regions. In addition, an increase and inflation in the values of the mean and RMS drag coefficients within these lock-in regions, is observed. Comparisons with previous numerical and experimental results verify the accuracy and the validity of the present study.
