Abstract

In this paper, the viscous flow around a 69 kg-class single rowing which is used in sports competition in full scale are simulated based on FLUENT, a commercial software for the computation of fluid dynamics(CFD). The numerical results of total pressure values and coefficients of the corresponding friction and drag viscous resistance at difference velocities are obtained. The simulation friction viscous resistance coefficients are compared with the estimated ones using empirical formula, besides compared the computational drag viscous resistance coefficient with trial results. The results of friction resistance coefficient obtained from FLUENT are compared with the estimate values computed with the empirical formula, while the comparison between the results of drag viscous resistance coefficient obtained from FLUENT and results obtained from experiments is also carried out. The validity of utilizing this software to predict the three-dimensional viscous flows and viscous resistance of single-person rowing is proved.
