Abstract

Gas stirring is an effective method for the secondary refining process of steel. The microphenomena among the phases of an argon bubble floating in steel and motion across the steel–slag interface were simulated and discussed with a sharp interface tracking method. A water-model experiment was set to validate the numerical model, and the experimental results showed agreement with the numerical model. A critical size for bubbles to pass the interface was found using the model.
