Abstract

The Rayleigh–Taylor instability in the inviscid and viscous cases is investigated based on numerical simulations of the Euler and the Navier–Stokes equations. It is shown that as the hydrodynamic instabilities develop they form vortex cascades. Our study demonstrates that emerging flows and their characteristics are identical for both models.
