Abstract

For a U-shaped sail that has been applied on real ships, we establish a three-dimensional sail geometry model using SolidWorks, and obtain its numerical simulation results under 10 different angles of attack using Fluent to numerically simulate its aerodynamic performance. By comparing the calculated results with the wind tunnel test results, the simulation model proved to be effective. Then the interference effects between the twin sails of the U-shaped sail were investigated by using the sail simulation model.
