Abstract

[Abstract] A new numerical simulation method of parachute Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) problem using Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equations (SIMPLE) algorithm is proposed. This method is efficient in both coupling computation of parachute Fluid-Structure Interaction and flow field analysis. Both flat circle parachute and cone-shaped parachute are modeled and simulated by this new method. Flow field characteristics at various angles of attack are further simulated for the cone-shaped parachute model. Comparison with the parallel finite element method shows that this new method also provides accurate and reasonable results. Nomenclature α = angle of attack ρ = density V = velocity Φ Γ = generalized diffusion coefficient
