Abstract

AbstractThe use of an incremental variational principle allows the calculation of inelastic material behaviour by means of an elastic potential. Missing quasiconvexity of this potential is a serious deficiency, because the existence of regular solutions cannot be guaranteed and finite–element approximations may become mesh–dependent. These problems can be overcome by the use of relaxed potentials. Results of a rank–one relaxation algorithm for a single–slip plasticity model are presented.
