Abstract

In order to manufacture the qualified turbine blade, the gas turbine blade material stress level must be evaluated. Mar-M247 alloy is often used to cast into a gas turbine blade. Casting temperature, cooling curve and heat treatment process will influence the performance of gas turbine blade materials. Material properties determine the performance and the fatigue life of components. The material properties of the nickel base cast alloy are governed by its microstructure, and the heterogeneous nature of the microstructure has a significant influence on the observed macroscopic material behaviour. In the paper, the mesoscale finite element model is used to study the mechanical properties of Mar-M247 alloy with the representative volume element method, the elastic stiffness constant matrix is calculated with finite element homogenisation. The results show the tensile strength of the material increases with the grain size refinement and give us a guide that how to cast the Mar-M247 alloy.
