Abstract

An analytical model for numerical simulation of engaging process of a friction plate is presented in this paper. A mixed lubrication state is supposed, in which macro-lubrication film force due to squeeze action, micro-lubrication film force due to the micro-hydrodynamic action on the paper fibers, and contacting force between the paper fibers and the separator plate are taken into account to formulate the governing equation for the gap height variation. It is especially noted that a mathematical model to evaluate the deformation of the paper fibers due to the contact with the mating solid surface is newly constructed, which is effectively applied in the simulation model.
