Abstract

ABSTRACT Anumerical kinematic wave model was developed to simulate the dynamic erosion process in a ridge-furrow system. Several forms of an expression for estimating the detachment capacity of flow were examined. A layer of sediment previously deposited on the surface of the furrow caused a peak in the curve for sediment concentration in the runoff versus time during the rise of the runoff hydrograph from rainfall with a constant rainfall excess rate. Two concepts of the erosion process of the loose, deposited sediment were examined. The best concept for describing erosion of this loose layer of sediment was one where the deposited sediment was eroded uniformly across the width of the channel..
