Abstract

Land surface temperature (LST) is a crucial parameter in the study of surface urban heat island (SUHI). In order to get the continuous LST data in spatial-temporal domain to analyze the diurnal variation of urban LST, further investigate the SUHI. The research conducted a numerical simulation experiment in Wuhan city based on Community Land Model version 4.5 (CLM4.5), time series variation and spatial distribution of LST and SUHI were evaluated in the angle of qualitative and quantitative analysis using MODIS data. The results showed that CLM4.5 performed well in simulating the diurnal variation tendency of LST. Moreover, the spatial distribution and time series statistical results indicated the model can capture the characteristic that urban is hotter than rural area. But CLM4.5 overestimated LST and had weaknesses when simulating the diurnal variation tendency of SUHI. The conclusions of this study provide an important basic of using CLM4.5 to study SUHI in a fine-scale temporal resolution.
