Abstract

This study investigates the efficiency of an oscillating water column (OWC) wave energy convertor using numerical simulation. For the OWC device, it was assumed that inertial water free-surface of the OWC acts as a floating rigid body. Hence, the radiation potential term is considered in the model. Analysis is performed in frequency domain based on linear wave theory and potential flow. The model was validated against experimental data based on output pressure. This comparison revealed that the model is accurate enough for this kind of simulation. Further investigations showed that outgoing air pressure increases with increase in the wave period. Furthermore, the output power of device reduces with increasing the submerged depth.
