Abstract

The protection and utilization of groundwater represent a significant part of water resources management. The withdrawal of groundwater or its pollution may as a rule endanger the interests of a number of further users, primarily of agriculture and of the population. it is therefore necessary to consider in advance any planned intervention concerning the regime of groundwater flow and to determine its effects. One of the possible means to this end is the use of a suitable numerical model. This report describes a simple model for unconfined groundwater flow in an nonhomogeneous and anisotropic permeable aquifer. The results of testing this model in the analysis of groundwater flow in a large agricultural area are presented.
