Abstract

AbstractA numerical solution of non‐interacting salt flow simultaneously with water in unsaturated soil was devised and programmed. Solutions were obtained for infiltration, redistribution, and evaporation under different wetting and boundary conditions. The effect of diffusion on salt distribution was neglected in the computations. The method was found to give reasonable results for non‐interacting solutes. When compared with measured total salt distribution after one wetting and drying cycle, the model gave fairly good results when a source term was added to the computations. The method can be applied to some practical problems, such as leaching of salts and fertilizer movement.
