Abstract
In this work, the design and the performance of a two dimensional photonic structure with hexagonal geometry is numerically investigated by plane wave expansion (PWE) method. The structure consists in a zinc oxide (ZnO) substrate patterned in a hexagonal configuration with periodic holes with different radius. The photonic crystals exhibited band gaps in the near infrared wavelength range. This kind of photonic structures can be used for a wide range of optoelectronic applications.
