Abstract
Since the backscattered cross-polarised signal can be used to detect breast tumours that are located near chest wall and determine the polarisation characteristic of tumours, which is different in benign and malignant ones, in this paper, we try to design an UWB small dual-polarised horn antenna. Effects of different elements of the antenna on its performance are examined using three dimensional finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) methods. Instead of ridges, four curved planes terminated with resistors are incorporated with a horn body. It is shown that the antenna configuration can be set somehow, that antenna exhibits low VSWR, S21 over a wide frequency range from 1 GHz to 11 GHz and high fidelity. The time-domain electric field distribution in E-plane and H-plane and radiation pattern of the antenna are shown. Capability of antenna in producing narrow beam width for hyperthermia treatment is also explained.
