Abstract

By using the methods of Chapter 2, we have means at our disposal for constructing good polynomial approximations of given functions. In this chapter, we seek to approximate the derivatives and integrals of given functions by taking the derivatives and integrals of approximating functions. Interpolation polynomials are comparatively easily computed approximations, and consequently, formulas for numerical differentiation and integration of polynomials are the basis of the methods to follow.
