Abstract
We previously proposed a linear permanent magnet vernier machine (LPMVM) which has the permanent magnets on the primary side with armature winding and the secondary side without armature winding [1]. In that machine, even only the permanent magnets on the primary side generate a thrust force. That idea has brought a novel topology of linear PM machines which doesn't need any magnets on the secondary side. Other researchers have also proposed similar topologies [2]. The topology will offer an extremely low cost linear machine system for long distance moving applications compared with conventional linear PM and induction machines.
