Abstract

Numerical computations of linewidths and intensities of plasma lines due to Landau and collisional damping of a fully and singly ionized plasma have been carried out. They are presented in the form of graphs for a wide range of experimental conditions including those under which these plasma lines have been observed by light scattering techniques from laboratory plasmas. Brief discussions of the theoretical background used in the numerical calculations, together with the approximations, are given. The Coulomb screening integral function involved in the calculation of collisional damping is computed directly and is compared with the approximate expressions used by other workers. Possible experimental conditions wherein these damping effects may be observed by light-scattering techniques are discussed.
