Abstract

High energy photons give rise to annihilation radiation, especially in medium weight to heavy elements. A procedure is presented, based on the moments method, for calculating spectra of annihilation gamma rays and their contribution to exposure from point isotropic sources in three media: air, water and lead. It is shown that annihilation photons change the spectrum of scattered photons below 511 keV, but contribute little to exposure.
