Abstract

The field configuration within a free-electron metal slab of finite thickness is found by numerical solution of the integral equation, both for zero magnetic field and with a magnetic field applied normal to the sample surface. The results extend those of Baraff to the case where the mean free path exceeds the sample thickness. It is found that the surface impedance varies markedly with field strength, even when the field is in the wrong direction for helicon propagation to occur.
