Abstract

This paper describes a full wave calculation of gravity wave propagation in a realistic thermospheric model, including the effects of height dependent temperature and winds, of Coriolis force, viscosity, thermal conduction, and ion drag. In order to integrate the hydrodynamic equations, the height dependent coefficients are approximated by piecewise constant ones, taking into account also terms which involve vertical derivatives. Numerically calculated results are compared with observational data deduced from ionograms.
