Abstract

Complete analysis of bistatic scattering feature to Gaussian rough sea surface is critical for inversion of surface physical parameters (such as sea surface wind and wave field) from satellite remote sensing data. A numerical simulation of the bistatic normalized radar cross section (BNRCS) is performed with unified wave spectrum, proposed by Elfouhaily, with cases of Ku and C band configuration and different polarization in term of a theoretical approximation model - small slope approximation (SSA) model. The results of the SSA model and the SASS-II test model are compared and analyzed. Given the different wind speed, the variation of BNRCS with the scattering angle and azimuth scattering is calculated and analyzed on the above configuration. The results further confirm that selection the appropriate wave spectrum and the Gaussian integration method in the V-V polarization, SSA model results can reach the precision of less than 1.1dB.
