Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide a numerical and experimental analysis of the effects of using ethanol (as a renewable fuel) and gasoline blends on engine performance and emissions in an EF7 engine. Four alternative ethanol-gasoline blends in the EF7 engine were examined for this purpose. An experimental result revealed that E10 produces the most torque compared with other various blended fuels, which was the same as the numerical analysis. Numerical results in GT-Power software revealed that the BP of gasoline was slightly less than that of blended ethanol-gasoline fuels. E15 had the highest rate of production power and the lowest CO and HC emissions among the blended fuels. E10 had a 3.79 % lower SFC than gasoline. The volume efficiency of gasoline was 6.32 %, 1.85 %, and 3.05 % higher than that of E5, E10, and E15, respectively. At 3000 RPM and full load, when E15 emissions were compared to gasoline emissions, CO and HC emissions were reduced by 23.46 % and 44.04 %, respectively, whereas CO2 and NOX emissions increased by 16.03 % and 29.93 %, respectively. Based on the results, E10 and E15 are being offered as alternatives to gasoline as fuels that work just as well as pure gasoline but produce less pollution.
