Abstract

Flat slab is a reinforced concrete slab which has no beams and is directly supported on concrete columns. Voided slabs are reinforced concrete slab in which the volume is reduced by forming voids inside the slab. The voids are provided by placing void formers inside the slab. The void formers are kept in place with the help of a fixing device. In flat slabs the slab is directly supported on the columns for more used space, so there will be stress concentration at the slab-column junction which may finally lead to collapse. In voided slabs, the cross sectional area of the slab is reduced due to presence of voids and hence the slabs have lower punching shear strength. The present article emphasis on various studies conducted on punching shear strength of flat slab and voided flat slab. The detailed works taken up to 2018 were noticed in this article. Numerical analysis of flat slab experimentally evaluated is also done in the present article. Parametric study is conducted on voided flat slab by varying size shape and spacing of voids.
