Abstract

Performance analysis of a tracer by the capacitive load method has not been well developed because the state of the tracer circuit is expressed by a differential equation involving the non-linearity of photovoltaic (PV) arrays. For this purpose the author has adopted the implicit trapezoidal rule to formulate the equation as an algebraic equation and presented some examples. The influences of PV cell parameters on the performance are summarized: (1) the most sensitive parameter is the fill factor, (2) the second most sensitive parameter is the normalized load resistance at Pmax, and (3) other parameters such as the diode factor and the crystalline or amorphous nature of the cell are negligible.
