Abstract

Upper limb disabilities become a concern to Indonesia. There are many prosthetic hand products from other countries, but they do not fit to Indonesian citizen, neither for the price nor the size. Because of it, Diponegoro University developed a prosthetic hand to solve the problem that currently faced by the Indonesian citizen. This prosthetic hand was expected to be a prosthetic hand that fit, either for the price or the size, with Indonesian citizen. Design safety becomes the concern of the development of prosthetic hand, and this paper investigates the reliability of the Middle finger of the prosthetic hand under the hook load. The result is the upper part experienced maximum stress at the value 54.524MPa and the lower part experienced maximum stress at the value 29.472 MPa. The maximum stress that occurs on the Middle finger of the prosthetic hand was still under the yield stress of material. With the safety factor about 1.28 and 2.37 for upper part and lower part, respectively, it can be considered that the prosthetic hand that has been developed in Diponegoro University was safe to use on hook position
