Abstract

Shaped-end radiators are used as transitions from waveguide to free space in quasioptical mode converters of high-power gyrotrons with radial rf output. A new technique based on the method of equivalent edge currents will be presented to estimate the backscattering effects due to diffraction of the incident high-order cavity mode by helical and straight edges. It will be shown that reflected power can be reduced significantly by choosing a proper waveguide radius.
