Abstract

This paper investigates the effects of tunneling on the displacements and the behavior of laterally loaded deep foundations adjacent to the tunnel for different geotechnical parameters. The plane strain numerical simulations were carried out using Plaxis 2D Geotechnical Engineering Software. The findings show that by increasing the strength and stiffness parameters of the soil, initial lateral bearing capacity of pile before tunneling increased gradually. Also, the strength and stiffness parameters of soil, forward tunnel loading (FTL) and reverse tunnel loading (RTL) had significant effects on the behavior of pile before tunneling. Moreover, FTL, RTL and ratio of pile axes distance from the tunnel axes (S/D) had effects on the pile horizontal displacements and vertical displacements.
