Abstract

The interpretation of an EPR spectrum is sometimes aided by calculating a “significance plot,” which may be calculated from a digitized EPR spectrum in the same way that a power spectrum may be calculated from a time series. The theoretical form of significance plots derived from ideal first-order spectra is discussed. Using the EPR spectrum of anthracene radical cations as an example, a method is described whereby a significance plot may be analyzed to determine the hyperfine splitting constants.
