Abstract

Ultrasound Tomography (UT) is a non-invasive, safe, dynamic and relatively inexpensive imaging technique for abdominal diagnosing and monitoring. With the mature of pulse-echo technique, the Ultrasound Reflection Tomography (URT) is widely used in a variety of applications. However, such methods have the disadvantages of low resolution with limited information contained in received signal when operated in human abdomen. Here, to deal with this issue, a continuous wave UT method is presented to image the lesion in upper human abdomen. A series of numerical simulation are conducted to analyze the human abdominal ultrasound field under continuous wave excitation while the incident frequency is optimized according to the resolution and signal intensity synthetically as indicators. The reconstruction result shows that the proposed method has a preferable accuracy locating primary tumors in the major organs, which proves the feasibility of using continuous wave ultrasonic tomography in the examination of human abdominal cancer.
