Abstract

This study proposes a numerical analysis of the convective flow inside the cavity formed between two horizontal adiabatic disks and two coaxial differentially heated vertical cylinders. One of the cylinders rotates at constant angular velocity and this study focuses on the effect of rotation on flow structures and heat transfer. Different flow structures and heat transfer rates are established in the cavity, depending on which cylinder is assumed in rotation. The analysis was performed in non dimensional form, considering only moderate values of Re, so that all reported cases can be properly addressed as mixed convection, neglecting both viscous dissipation and the effect of gravity on centrifugal and Coriolis forces.
