Abstract

The number of consultant paediatricians and specialty, staff, and associate specialist (SAS) grade paediatricians in the UK fell by 1.4% between 2009 and 2011, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has reported.1 The college’s latest workforce census shows that the number of SAS grade paediatricians working in the NHS fell “significantly.” And although the total number of consultant paediatricians rose slightly between 2009 and 2011, the rate of growth was slower than in 2007-09.
