Her dissertation focused on the gifting economy among Cook Islanders in New Zealand and the wider Pacific. She studied specifically the production and use of the paramount ceremonial textile valuables called tivaivai. She looked at how these “unquilted quilts” dignified the gifting of substantial sums of money in ritual events in what constitutes the Cook Islands ceremonial economy. She is a postdoctoral scholar and professional teaching fellow at the University of Auckland.
