Abstract

In public statues that populate Italian streets and squares, women who existed are rare, although there is no shortage of female figures of various types. Bologna and Emilia-Romagna are no exception with nymphs and sirens of marked sensuality. More recent examples, such as the Laundress of Bologna and the Tortellini monument in Castelfranco Emilia, are in line. In recent years, operations of feminist re-appropriation of spaces, such as Cheap and Monumentale dimenticanza, have integrated real women with different media.
