Abstract

India is the land of diverse religions, festivals, saints, sages, castes, and creeds having several deities and ancestral spirits seated in the patches of forests called sacred groves. It is analyzed that in rural areas of the Peer Panjal region number of sacred groves are yet to be explored which consist of several endangered flora and fauna species. A new model of sacred groves has been designed considering the ecological and religious values of the sacred groves in the maintenance and functioning of our ecosystem. The sacred groves are considered as nuclei and towns and villages as cells, with illustrations and descriptions provided in the manuscript. We have discussed the conservation of sacred groves (nuclei) for the survival of villages or towns (cells) hence the overall survival of humans and other forms of life. This article is aimed to explore the value of sacred groves in our ecosystem hence for the proper conservation of these life-sustaining patches of forests.
