Abstract

The role of neutron capture reactions in the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements in stars is reviewed. Maxwellian-averaged capture cross sections at 30 keV are presented for most isotopes across the periodic table. Unmeasured cross sections are obtained by interpolations based on the systematic variation of cross sections with neutron number for odd- and even-Z nuclides. The empirical correlation of capture cross sections and s-process abundances is shown, and a consistent set of r-process abundances derived.
