Abstract
A detailed investigation is carried out of the role of nucleonnucleon correlations in the inelastic scattering of high energy electrons by nuclei summed over all nuclear excitations. It is concluded that the dominant correlation effect is that caused by the exclusion principle and the differential cross section can be rather accurately predicted independently of the details of the nuclear dynamics.
