Abstract

We have computed the helicity amplitudes for the reactions $\ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}N(N=p, n)$ at large momentum transfer to lowest order in perturbative QCD. Our cross section for proton Compton scattering shows good qualitative agreement with experimental data, when the proton is modeled by the Chernyak-Oglobin-Zhitnitsky, King-Sachrajda, or Gari-Stefanis distribution amplitude. Discrepancies between our results and previous calculations seem to be due to different treatments of numerical integration around singularities.
