Abstract

The morphology of the nucleolus has been studied in chick fibroblasts cultivated in vitro and treated with MPB [2-mercapto-1( β -4-pyridethyl) benzimidazole]. This treatment produces reversible nucleolar modifications which may be related to the RNA synthesis inhibition. Furthermore, under these experimental conditions, fibrillar centers are more easily visible. The relationship between the nucleolar morphology and the nucleolar function is discussed.
