Abstract
Nuclei with very large deformations provide an opportunity to study many aspects of nuclear structure: shell structure; exotic states; extreme single‐particle motion (shell model); collective modes; pairing. In this talk I will discuss a few selected examples illustrating some recent developments in this area of study.
