Abstract

The rate of nucleation in a binary vapor mixture of H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ and H/sub 2/O at 25/sup 0/C is derived by taking into account the influence of hydrates as well as new values for the vapor pressure of sulfuric acid. The new results are compared to older ones and previous experimental determinations. The new theory reconfirms that very small amounts of sulfuric acid are able to induce the nucleation of water vapor, even when the relative humidity is less than 100%, and also yields improved agreement with experiment.
