Abstract
Abstract Nucleation of solidification of 2,4,6,-trinitrotoluene (TNT) by 2,2′,4,4′,6,6′-hexanitrostilbene (HNS) is described. Precipitation of HNS from TNT solution occurs on solidification of the TNT; this precipitation is epitaxial on the most rapid growth front of the TNT crystals and appears in regular bands. The exceptional ability of HNS in nucleating TNT may be related to the close molecular similarity of host and guest.
