Abstract

Nucleation and growth behavior of diamond grown under low pressure on two-phase tungsten carbide (W 2C + WC) particles was studied using SEM and XRD. It was found that the carbonization reaction of W 2C to WC markedly retarded the nucleation of diamond during the early stages of deposition.
