Abstract

The kinetic parameters of devitrification on reheating for the 15InF 3–10YF 3–25PbF 2–15ZnF 2–20GaF 3– 7CaF 2–2MgF 2–6BaF 2 glass, using differential scanning calorimetry. Both isothermal and non-isothermal methods have been used, with heating rates ranging from 2 and 10 K·min −1. Avrami equation is used to describe this kinetic transformation. The value of Avrami exponent lies between 2.5 and 3, which correspond to tridimensional and diffusion controlled crystal growth. Nucleation and growth occur in the thermal range of the study, that is between 400 and 420 °C. Depending on the applied method, the value of the apparent activation energy ranges from 100 to 134 kJ·mol −1, which is smaller than that fluorozirconate glasses one. This glass appears as a possible material for special optical fibers.
