Abstract
The prevailing opinion is that excess Cd in CdI 2 produces diamagnetic Cd 2 2+ ions. 113Cd relaxation data indicates that ∼1% of added atoms produce paramagnetic Cd + ions with lifetime ∼ 10 ps. The concentration of Cd + ions is depressed by excess iodine.
