Abstract

A theoretical model of nuclear spin conversion in gaseous CH3F induced by collisions with magnetic particles has been developed. The spin conversion rate in CH3F molecules embedded in oxygen was found to be equal to γ/P = 1.2 × 10−5m−1/Torr, having low isotope dependence. These results allowed us to conclude that collisions with magnetic particles cannot be the main mechanism behind the spin conversion in CH3F observed earlier.
