Abstract

Nuclear spectroscopic studies of 18O have been made by α-bombardment of enriched self-supporting Al 2 18O 3 targets at energies between 13.5 and 17 MeV. α-γ angular correlation measurements were performed on decay transitions from levels at 3.92, 4.45, 5.09, 5.25, 5.33, 6.19 and 6.39 MeV. Spins of levels up to 5.33 MeV excitation were confirmed and levels at 6.19 and 6.39 MeV have been assigned I π = 1 − and 3 − respectively. The 1.94 MeV transition from the 3.92 MeV level and the 3.27 MeV transition from the 5.25 MeV level are found to be almost pure M1 in character. Decay branching ratios of all investigated levels have been determined.
