Abstract

The nuclear quadrupole resonance of 14N in ethylamine, n-propylamine, isopropylamine, n-butylamine, and tert-butylamine were observed at liquid nitrogen temperature. For ethylamine, the temperature dependence of resonance frequencies was measured, and a phase transition was found at 184°K. The observed frequencies, ν I and ν II, yield almost the same quadrupole coupling constant and asymmetry parameter regardless of the kind of alkyl groups. The ionic character of NH and NC bonds was estimated as 0.42 and 0.27, respectively.
