Abstract
The nuclear quadrupole resonance of 14N in ethylamine, n-propylamine, isopropylamine, n-butylamine, and tert-butylamine were observed at liquid nitrogen temperature. For ethylamine, the temperature dependence of resonance frequencies was measured, and a phase transition was found at 184°K. The observed frequencies, ν I and ν II, yield almost the same quadrupole coupling constant and asymmetry parameter regardless of the kind of alkyl groups. The ionic character of NH and NC bonds was estimated as 0.42 and 0.27, respectively.
